"Such Tender Care" -- excerpt from a love letter

My dear "Chaim":
It might be strange to send you the following picture of the painting of a mother, but I find it therapeutic. Whether I imagine myself to be the little baby so lovingly and selflessly caressed by this woman -- or I imagine myself to be this feminine, loving mother holding her little baby to her chest, giving the baby warmth and protection -- I feel great just looking at this image.
Could you imagine that you are the little baby, being caressed and held in love? Ah! Does this evoke in you a healing warmth, a feeling of being cared for, being protected, being watched over by a loving presence?
Far away, in the north of Karachi, I can visualize myself holding you just as tenderly and lovingly -- pouring in you all the attention and care that you need to feel loved, and to heal.
Be well.

P.S. I will now pray and retire to bed. Shall do writing and...

Science Delivers Humanity Only As Well As Humanity Delivers Itself

Inspired by Etsko Schuitema's quote:

"The most dangerous mythological construct of our time is the idea of science."

A possible eloboration:

...the idea of science as the ultimate deliverer of Man. It is not. Man himself is the deliverer of Man(kind). Technology of the times is but a tool in the process, and though it potentially delivers Man from a lower state to higher, when put to right use, the origin of its invention, design, and arrangement is Man! Therefore, Man!
---
A story:
In an experiment, they fed spiders several substances to observe the webs they would create subsequently. Having being drugged, the spiders spun out erratic webs. (Just for interest, the worst web was by coffee-drinkers!) This means that the spider is the origin and the designer of the web, and if it is of erraneous mind, the web that it produces for its own eventual use will be erraneous, and will be no good to its self. And the same is the case with Man and technology/science.

When I say 'origin', it is only a relative term in time & space. The spider took in substances from its environment to spin out the web so it's not the ultimate creator. But since we are dealing with the specific matter of the spider web, it is useful to consider the spider as its origin, for the web was not a spider-web before the spider spat it out in a specific pattern.

The experiment: Spiders on Drugs

More notes on Science shall be published in time. Amen!

Q&A: Regarding Religious and Irreligious People

This question was asked by a companion in Hunza, the valley I am residing in these days.
---

Question: I seek your opinion on a matter. It can be said that there are two kinds of people in the world. The people who follow a religion, and people who don't follow a religion. Who do you think is right?

Response:

There are two things that matter, and they have nothing to do with religion per se, although a religion may be a reminder of those truths. The first thing is this intense inner feeling that there is something good, something right going on in this world. That there is something that is making flowers bloom and babies grow; something that is taking you from here to there on this road we are sitting by. You can feel and sense that thing. You know it--you don't have to be a certain kind of plant or animal or human to know it or to claim it. You know it. When you really love it, you know it, you believe in it, it even lends a spring to your walk--it is that real, and that tangible. When you don't believe in it, when you are angered at it, your actually body will feel hate and you may even slump.

The feeling of and a sense of that Thing is not claimed by any one person or a religion. Anyone can feel that. This is the first of the two matters I am speaking of--you can call this Man's relationship with God, or Whatever you choose to call that Thing that is giving a spring to your body, that is holding you up, that assures you your life, your existence, your security, your sustenance. It was here before you, you did not make it nor can you kill it out of existence, and it will outlast you.

The other matter is the matter of ethics (in dealing with the Other). "Do unto others as you would have them do to you." "We are all related in a fundamental manner." This is the basis of sound, fair, and correct (human-existence) interaction.

There are people who affirm this (in thought and action), and people who don't. The truth is, that people who affirm to both these matters may outwardly be subscribing to a religion, or they may not. In fact there are those who lay claim to a religion, but are some of the worst offenders on both these counts. And there are those who will call themselves atheists or nothing-in-particular, but they are in reality familiar with and practicing these matters. They are the true believers. It may be that some of them are surrounded by those (religious or not) of a vile understanding, and therefore they wash themselves off any kinship with the latter. They then say, "I do not believe in the god that you believe in!", because the latter are believing in their own illusion, their own selfishness or cowardice, their own hideousness.

We are Muslims, and in our scriptures is the story of Abraham. He was an 'atheist' from the point of view of his people, for he refused to subscribed to their gods.... which were, by the way, based on previous prophets and messengers such as Noah by some accounts.

In outward form, Abraham was an atheist, a denier, an outlaw. Inwardly, he was the truest believer of the lo--he witnessed for himself!

...
And therefore a man today may call himself a believer and religious, but may in fact be a concealer and represser of truth, a liar. And a man may have no attachment to any outward religion, but may embody the real truth of the matter.

Discourse: Gratitude Arises in Existence in Response to a Gift...

...and the quality of the gratitude magnifies the quality of the gift given. This is by mercy of Allah. However, on the opposite end, Allah is the Coverer of Faults and tend to minimize the existence's response to an error.

That said, the discourse....

The unconditional giver transacts* with God, and not with outward form. And Allah, being Al-Shukoor, The Most Thanksgiving, creates instant reward and 'repayment' in existence—this restoring the balance.

Therefore in a manner it is true that no true gift is made without there being 'gratitude' created for it in existence. Man's internal sense of harmony and balance, Al-Meezan, The Balance, records the slightest of movement in universe, and it informs the knower of the gift, the reward, and of anything that is going out of balance in creation and may need restoration. The one who is nearer to Allah by way of taqwa (excellence, clarity, precision) is the one who more readily recognizes and answers the call of the Meezan. Those who are patient with creation converse with Allah, Who gives them internal assurance that a gift has created a reward. It is but a natural urge in Man to acquire that satisfaction, and the origin of that urge is in Allah, Who "wished to be known" to Hu's Own Self, by Hu's own Self.

* Transacts with Allah in essence, and with outward form in only as far as the outward person or event enables an opening through which one "loans" to God. There is no shame in this, Allah has spoken clearly of this bargain in the Quran. In truth, of course, He's transacting with Himself, and our false sense of modesty must not become a hindrance in doing what needs to be done. Allah knows best, and His Friends know what He allows them to know.

Waiting for 'Thanks'

(Excerpt from a discussion on gifts and response)

Allah makes an unconditional gift work in ways that are not apparent to us at all times. Waiting for the word "thanks" or greetings cards on one's big days or a cash (immediate) repayment for one's acts is to ask too little of God who may be putting one's gift or love or care to a far greater benefit and work in existence than one may be able to fathom.

That said, what a bonus it is when we are touched by outward expressions of love, happiness, gratitude, kindness. Allah gives us everything Hu gives as and when we need it, giving us the right gift and lesson at the right time.

The Ignorant, The Aspirant, The Master

The ignorant and the Master say exactly the same thing, for quite the opposite reason. It is the aspirant on the way who maintains a statement contrary to the each of them.

The ignorant will say, "Existence is here to serve me", and his reason is ignorance and selfishness, or neediness, pettiness, or being unready because he is a child. The Master will say, "Existence serves me"--that is because he has witnessed how the Lord puts existence at the feet of His servant, and the... servant is at this stage but an extension of God in the 3D world... God is the Eye by which he see, the Mouth by which he breathes, and the Word by which he communicates with existence. Through him, God is witnessing Himself and thus it is true that through this servant, existence is serving "Me", the Lord. A human may through several cycles and spheres of such witnessing over a lifetime.

The aspirant in a matter says, "I am here to serve the universe (and it has power over me)". That is true for him because he is yet on his way to learn and master existence, and may not yet have tasted the fruit of labor and effort, which is to witness existence serving the self.

This does not just relate to epic spiritual journeys, but to everyday journeys of learning and mastery, such as that of a surfer. The ignorant thinks they can rule the waves. The aspirant learns better, and comes to know the power of the surf. The completed surfer who has gone through the joureny of learning specific to their self and the surf learns to ride the waves and earns the right to be their master. And at that moment, they will say exactly what the ignorant said: I am the wave's master!" The attitude, of course, if of humbleness and submission and respect to one's own journey in the person whe became a better human, too, in the process of becoming a surfer.

The Entire Existence Is to be Loved and Experienced

Nothing in existence is to be loathed and feared, and everything (in its time and place) is there to be employed by the Completed Man--and that includes the things that we (initially) do not understand, comprehend, or loathe or fear.

That does not mean incorrect dealing with that which arises in existence. It means to deal with things correctly, and that implies employing the full range of the faculties of Man.

Existence, then, means both the outward and the inner existence. When fearful or loathsome things arise in outer existence, inner resources are to be employed, either of which we must not fear.

The simplest example of it is this: you are walking down a road when you come upon an open gutter. You are not to step into it, and to 'love existence' does not require you to love the filthiness of the gutter, but to do what is needed and right. If you can fix it, you fix it. If you need to side-step, side-step. If you need to pass by or return, pass by or return. Use your good sense in that moment.

Do fear neither the gutter nor your aversive response to it. Even if you cover it or clean it, or recycle the waste, it is due to aversion to filthiness which is appropriate. You are not to dwell in filthiness.

Correct response and attitude as well as correct action liberates an inner force of life and longing and attraction within, and that force is called Love. Love cannot be done, made or produced, it can be released from within having taken the right attitude towards inner and outer existence.
